Candles and Scents to brighten and uplift: Simpatico-Home out of St. Louis, Missouri.  The Simpatico-Home line of candles are made with a 100% vegetable wax blend, made from renewable sources, and grown by American farmers.  I love the hobnail glass which is offered in tons of colors and delicious scents … these candles will brighten any day or evening!

Barbara Maran Goldberg Designs – Hand Crafted Jewelry

I don’t know about you but come Springtime I am in need of a few new baubles to give my wardrobe a fresh look.  The whimsical and refreshing designs of  Boston jewelry designer Barbara Goldberg of Barbara Maran Goldberg Designs totally fits the bill!

Barbara Goldberg hand crafted jewelry

Barbara gets her inspiration from “anyplace I can see pattern and the interaction of colors”… sources including couture magazines like Vogue, interior design magazines and even store catalogs can inspire her to start sketching.

Barbara works with a rainbow of Polimer Clays many times adding silver, gold and copper leaf to the mix.

First she uses a pasta machine to flatten out the clay.

Then she rolls the various clays into a log as you can see below.  The logs are sliced and then shaped into the individual clay beads which reveal the various swirls, grids, and waves that make each bead truly unique!  The clay beads are baked in an oven and finally glazed with a resin.

In addition to making the labor intensive clay beads Barbara also produces her own hand blown glass beads.   Many times she adds Swarovski crystals for a touch of  sparkle.  It is the combination of these elements:  clay, glass, and crystal which makes her jewelry designs so special.

Stylish Sterling Silver Jewelry by Jill O’Reilly Designs

Sterling silver brooch with blue topaz

Sterling silver brooch with blue topaz

As a native New Englander I know that you don’t have to walk  far to see original architecture; period homes; landscape designs and parks that were designed and built by our founding fathers.  It is just this local  inspiration  that lead jewelry designer Jill O’Reilly of Jill O’Reilly Designs to develop her Stone Wall jewelry collection.  Jill who lives in historic Lexington Massachusetts is often  inspired while out on her walks along the many old stone wall lined streets in Lexington.   By focusing on the various stone walls, individual rocks, and stones as her muse  Jill both  conceptualized and brought to fruition a jewelry collection  that both  connects to the past and compliments the  modern and organic spirit of today’s style.

Jill says that making each one-of-a-kind piece is like building a stone wall itself.  She starts with a flat piece of sterling silver (from US mines) and utilizing various tools she builds her design.  How appropriate that one of her favorite tools is an old hammer that she salvaged from the trash years ago since this vintage tool produces a unique stone effect each time she strikes the silver.  All of her designs are hand fabricated so each piece is truly one-of-a-kind.

Nesting on Main – Concord Massachusetts

If you were to ask me to recommend a retail shop where you would find lots of one-of-a-kind gifts, craftsman jewelry, home accents, and interesting vintage pieces  and you told me that it must be a fun shopping experience that is a feast for the eyes then I would tell you to visit Nesting on Main in historic Concord, Massachusetts.   Nesting on Main is even more inviting since they carry lots of  USA made products with many of them produced by small businesses all over America.

Come on up!

Located at 44 Main Street in Concord you walk up to this inviting  shop much like traveling up to a nest.  It is here you will begin your happy shopping experience with interesting rooms, nooks and corners filled to the brim with goodies.  Three women combined their talents and opened this shop.   The trio of Wendi Snider, Melissa Cox, and Beth Hylan have clearly hit the mark with both the mix of products and the way they display and merchandise every area of the store.

The day I visited Nesting on Main I spoke with Beth Hylan who makes a lovely line of jewelry called Beth Hyland Designs.  She uses vintage papers to make charms, necklaces, bracelets, and earrings and  all of her findings and components are American sourced.

Vintage paper charms by Beth Hylan Designs.

I love the crown accent piece and the winged jewelry dishes which are made in Atlanta, Georgia using antique molds.

Nothing updates a space quickly like new pillows.  These large linen/hemp pillows are made in New Hampshire.

Love these antique lampshades which are like a hanging art installation.

Even the smallest items are gems to discover.  These hand felted acorns are made by women in California and Vermont using real acorn tops!

Little cosmetic jars get enhanced with vintage button tops.

If you are fascinated with vintage ephemera: cards, papers, little booklets, tickets, small interesting documents, maps, post cards, etc then this is your store.  How about some musical paper scrolls from the 1800’s.

Lavender Shea soaps made on the west coast.

I would highly recommend this lovely shop.  During the Christmas season they do an outstanding job of transforming it  into a holiday extravaganza!  For more information and store hours, check out their website at www.nestingonmain.com

Until next time happy shopping!
