New England Style Menswear

I discovered a wonderful gem of a shop located in the south end of Boston.  SAULT NEW ENGLAND,  is chock full of traditional and casual menswear, gift items, and vintage findings.  Friendly shop owner, Philip Saul, says his merchandise represents classic New England style with a good mix of ever changing vintage pieces he hand picks himself.

I loved browsing the entire shop and want to feature some of the Made in the USA vendors Philip carries.

To start, I love The New England Shirt Company,  Standing strong against overseas factories, The New England Shirt Company, has remained in continuous operation in Fall River, Massachusetts for the last 75 years!

Here are some traditional, long sleeved, slim fit shirts that are as classic and timeless as New England itself.

A quality, crafted shirt like this is well worth the $145. price.

Next up is Ivy Prepster, pocket squares.  These stylish squares are made in the garment district of New York City.

With the resurgence of the prep movement these pocket squares add interest to a classic blue blazer or tweed jacket and at $34. make a great gift as well.  Ivy Prepster has a full line of bow ties coming soon.

Next is Forage Haberdashery, made in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Handcrafted by the designer duo, Shauna & Stephen, in their Philadelphia studio (once a tire factory).  They create traditional bow ties and skinny ties in the most delicious fabrics.  Many are made with vintage remnants.  They run between $74. and $84.

Skinny ties and bow ties.

Nestled in a beautiful little mason box with contrast paper lining,  the packaging also caught my attention since that too is made in the USA .  The Mason Box Company,  in Pawtucket Rhode Island makes everything in USA and  uses 100% recycled cardboard.  Now that’s a stylish box!

The Mason Box makes a nice presentation.

And I cant forget a few images of the ever changing vintage discoveries you will find at SAULT NEW ENGLAND.

Vintage merchandise comes and goes!!

Stylish handbags made from recycled newspapers in Massachusetts.

I am super excited to tell you about a unique and stylish line of ladies handbags all designed and made in Massachusetts from recycled newspapers!  Connie Carmen, founder of Couture Planet, who works at the elegant Copley Fairmont Hotel in Boston came up with the idea of making these bags after seeing tons of daily guest room newspapers hauled away.  The ingenious clutches, wristlets, handbags, and totes, utilize choice newspaper print with eye catching graphics, titillating  topics, and interesting advertisements, via publications like The Boston Globe and The New York Times.  Custom bags can be made to order as well.

The lovely ladies from Couture Planet invited me to visit their facility located in the historic Lady Pinkham factory in Lynn, Massachusetts.  Here I was thrilled to see dozens of bags hot off the press!

So they start with newspapers.

Then newspaper pages are selected and “fabric” sheets are made. Ten layers of newspaper are used and each sheet is laminated and double stitched.

Fabric sheets sorted for various portions of a bag like front, back or bottom.

A selection of clutches.

I love the grommet closure.

A wine theme clutch. Notice how the ingenious design carries the theme inside the clutch!

A Coco bag with lucite handles. I always wanted a Louis Vuitton bag!

An assortment of ever changing clutches, totes, and handbags.
